The greatest American import of the 20th century were Italian-American immigrants. Our Italian-American ancestors came for numerous reasons. Many fled to escape failing economies and hunger, while many ancestors fled to escape discrimination. No matter the reason, each of our families traveled to America seeking one thing: The American Dream.
Our ancestors had an inexplicable work ethic, leading to societal contributions around the globe. These contributions range from the finest cuisine, designers, musicians, athletes, and entertainers. The voices of Enrico Caruso, Luciano Pavarotti, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra are the most passionate of their generations while Rocco “Rocky” Marciano, Giacobbe "Jake" LaMotta, Vincent Lombardi, and Joseph DiMaggio were the indisputable greats in their respective sports. Actors like Sylvestor Stallone and Joe Cortese are masters of their craft. Distinguished Italian-Americans like U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Philadelphia Mayor Frank Rizzo, Connecticut Governor Ella Grasso, and New Mexico U.S. Senator Pete Domenici, were among those who served the public with distinction.
Despite our contributions; the very culture we celebrate and our proud heritage is under attack. The Italian-American Civil Rights League (“IACRL”) celebrates our culture, while vehemently defending our history. This means celebrating Christopher Columbus, who discovered America and vowing to oppose those seeking to destroy his name and reputation.
The IACRL's mission is to honor Italian traditions, celebrate our family values, and recognize those contributing to our culture’s successes. At the same time, it is our intention to educate the American people about anti-Italian American bias and persecution, and, above all, to fight anti-American discrimination both through the judicial system and in the public arena.
Membership dues will go toward preserving Italian American heritage, and bringing awareness through the media, and other means to causes that protect and advance the interests of Italian Americans.
